Empowering the Homeless in the Milwaukee Community
"Bee The Change" is a leadership program empowering homeless men and women to be "Beevangelists" certified in Beepods Beekeeping, Environmental Education, and Dialogue Facilitation.
Motivation to Bee the ChangeHoney bees are extremely important to our ecosystem and even more important to our food supply. Although honey bees are accountable for pollination in over 1/3 of our food supply, over 1/3 of the honey bee population dies every year. The continued stigma against bees in our community and lack of education about their importance to our food system remain significant problems. These challenges are coupled with a substantial population of un-employed and under-employed homeless men and women in Milwaukee who need opportunities for meaningful work and authentic connections with the community.

Expand the ProgramAs more members of the community are educated about the importance of bees, they will install Beepods on their urban properties. Organizations focused on the homeless will also supply financial support for individuals to participate in this leadership training and the program will continue to grow within the community.
